Tabatha McFadyen & Alex Raineri in Recital // South Yarra, Melbourne

Presented by the Lieder Society of Victoria, prizewinning young musicians, soprano Tabatha McFadyen and pianist Alex Raineri present a duo recital of much-loved works for piano and voice at Christ Church, South Yarra on Friday 16th January. The program features Debussy’s stunning settings of the poetry of Paul Verlaine in the Ariettes Oubliées (1885-87), Mahler’s Rückert Lieder (1901-02) which includes the profoundly beautiful ‘Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen‘ and selections from Ravel’s virtuosic and electrifying solo piano work Le Tombeau de Couperin (1914-17).

As a duo, Alex & Tabatha have been performing for a number of years and have individually won competitions such as the National Liederfest, 49th International Dvořák Singing Competition (Czech Republic), Kerikeri International Piano Competition (New Zealand), The Mietta Song Competition and the Australian National Piano Award, among many others. They have appeared as soloists with the Sydney, Queensland, West Australian and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras, Queensland Pops Orchestra and Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra. Tabatha is currently studying under scholarship at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and Alex is currently studying at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) and also undertaking a Doctor of Music Performance (Research) under scholarship at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music Griffith University.
