Il barbiere di Siviglia (The Barber of Seville) is an opera composed in 1813 by Italian composer Gioachino Rossini. Written in the style of ‘Opera Buffa’ is it widely regarded as one of the greatest masterpieces of comedy within the operatic canon. The narrative of the opera follows the Count Almaviva, who is in love with Rosina, ward of the cantankerous Dr. Bartolo. At the top of Act 1, Scene 2, Rosina sings Una voce poco fa where she recalls the voice of her suitor and writes him a letter, determined to win him despite the plans of her guardian.
