Composer Kate Moore says of Meuse, “It is based entirely on the character, feel and gentle miraculous undercurrent of the river Maas. Thinking about rivers as arteries, this would represent the main artery of my family tree. The history of the river is also my history, which resonates with me in a meaningful way. I wrote this work whilst at a silent retreat in a convent next to the river - so it is also location specific. The only thing is that I got a little carried away and created a meandering epic river piece in an Escher-esque never-ending form - like a river flowing in circles always down…”
