The music of two Korean composers 'Memory' by Youngsub Choi and 'Psalm 23' by Woon Young Na display the interesting musical connections between traditional Korean folk music and the introduction of Western music into their musical language in the twentieth century. Both songs are imbued with a harmonically familiar language but subjected to a highly stylized musical treatment. 'Memory' is a wistful recollection of a better time, a meditation on temporality. 'Psalm 23' sets an extremely well known religious text, here subjected to a particularly profound and heartfelt musical setting.
