A great pleasure to have contributed some scales and rumbles to Warwick Fyfe’s performance of this powerful aria from Beethoven’s Fidelio. Another excellent chapter in Opera Queensland’s ‘An Aria A Day’ project.

Premiering in 1805, 'Fidelio' is Beethoven’s only opera. Here Sydney-based baritone Warwick Fyfe performs Pizarro’s rousing Act 1 aria ‘Ha! welch ein Augenblick!’

Did you know… A theatrical mask features on the Beethoven monument by Kaspar von Zumbusch in Vienna, commemorating the composer’s only opera in the city where it premiered.

Another triumph in Opera Queensland’s ‘Aria A Day’ project which I was thrilled to contribute pianistic support for. A spectacular performance by Elizabeth A Lewis 👏👏👏

Opera Queensland
Mourning the death of her father, Donna Anna begs Don Ottavio, her betrothed, to stop talking about marriage until she has time to grieve in this aria beautifully and painfully brought to life by soprano Elizabeth Lewis.

‘Non mi dir’ from 'Don Giovanni'
by W. A. Mozart
Piano Alex Raineri
#ThisIsOpera #AnAriaADay

The libretto for Mozart’s 'Don Giovanni' was billed as a dramma giocoso, a common designation of its time that denotes the fusing of serious and comic action. However, Mozart described the work as an opera buffa. Although sometimes classified as comic, it blends comedy, melodrama and supernatural elements.

Opera Queensland respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the Lands across Australia and pays respect to their ancestors who came before them and to Elders past, present and emerging.
