Described by Limelight Magazine as "a soloist of superb skill and musicality", twenty-three year old Australian pianist Alex Raineri is currently based both in Brisbane and Melbourne and is an active recitalist, concerto soloist and chamber musician.

He has toured in California, South-East Asia, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Germany and has a vast amount of recital and chamber music engagements in Australia including regular broadcasts on ABC Classic FM and the MBS Networks. He has performed concertos with the Queensland, Tasmanian, Darwin and West Australian Symphony Orchestras, Southern Cross Soloists, Orchestra Victoria, Queensland Pops Orchestra, Four Winds Festival Orchestra, Bangalow Festival Orchestra and the Queensland Conservatorium Chamber Orchestra.

Alex is the pianist and co-artistic director of the contemporary music ensemble Kupka’s Piano, ensemble in residence at the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts. He is also the pianist with the Southern Cross Soloists, in residence at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre. Duo partnerships include lieder repertoire with soprano, Tabatha McFadyen and a percussion/piano duo with Angus Wilson.

Having had several successes in the competition field, Alex has won a number of first prizes including the Kerikeri International Piano Competition, Australian National Piano Award, ANAM Concerto Competition, Joyce Campbell Lloyd Scholarship, Michael Kieran Harvey Scholarship, Allison/Henderson Sydney Eisteddfod Piano Scholarship and Theme & Variations Foundation Scholarship. He has also been a prizewinner at the Sydney International Piano Competition, Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition, Mietta Song Competition and was three times a national finalist in the ABC Symphony Australia Young Performer Awards. He is a current recipient of a Griffith University Postgraduate Research Scholarship and was awarded a 'Kranichstein Musikpries' at the International Summer Courses for New Music in Darmstadt (Germany) in 2014. Alex has had projects funded by the Australia Council for the Arts, Arts Queensland, Ian Potter Cultural Trust and JUMP Mentoring.

Alex is presently under the tutelage of Leah Horwtiz OAM and Timothy Young and is undertaking a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music (Griffith University). Concurrently, he is also undertaking a fellowship program - curating concerts through 2016 at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM).

In 2013, Alex graduated from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music (Griffith University) with a Bachelor of Music (First Class Honours) in Advanced Performance, also receiving a University Medal. He holds a Licentiate Diploma from the Australian Music Examinations Board and a Licentiate Diploma with Distinction from Trinity College London.

This includes collaborations with Australasian Dance Collective, Brisbane Writers Festival, Kaldor Public Arts Projects, Queensland Theatre, Makeshift Dance Collective, Victorian Theatre Company, Paul Kildea, Peter Bassett (writers), Helen Morse, Damien Beaumont, Jason Klarwein, Matthew Connell, Helen Howard, Michael Futcher (actors), Jak Scanlon (filmmaker), Joel Dunkley (designer) and Eljo Agenbach (visual artist).

As a repetiteur Alex has worked on productions of Tosca (Puccini), Macbeth (Verdi), A Flowering Tree (Adams), La voix humaine (Poulenc) and The Call (D’Netto) for Opera Queensland, and Puccini's Il Trittico for the Cuskelly Summer School. 

Alex's mentors include; Timothy Young, Leah Horwitz OAM, Stephen Emmerson, Huguette Brassine and Genevieve Lacey.
